Thank you for your insightful comment, Neda. You're talking about resisting the Now!

Eckhart Tolle (in his book, The Power of Now) talks about this connection to our bodies that you speak of and how negative emotions are simply reflections from ego-based thinking. (http://www.livelighter.org/learn-the-art-of-creating-peace/). It's a fascinating subject that requires an open mind to accept (and then practice).

And yes, I totally agree that we "treat" ourselves when we're low to stop those feelings and replace them with pleasure. We're giving ourselves affection in the form of food.

If you ever decide to write an article on the subject, please send it to me - I'd love to read it!

Very interesting article, Steph. My thought here is that it's not that we can't trust our bodies but how connected are we to our bodies when these moments arise?

You touched upon very important things in your article. "Addictions are a sign of imbalance." Either it being alcohol, drugs, cigarettes or food, we turn to these to not FEEL what is happening at the moment in our lives. It is an escape. An escape from reality.

So, can we not trust our bodies? Or, have we just fled from our bodies? Disconnecting and not listening or feeling.

I deal with Compulsive and Emotional eaters in my business. What each and everyone of them have in common is that there are so many feelings that it becomes overwhelming. The food becomes a form of shoving the feelings down the throat. Instead of allowing themselves to feel the sadness, the anger, the frustrations, the emptiness, etc... they shove those feelings down with whatever they can find. It almost becomes uncontrollable and as disgusted as they feel after wards, there is a comfort they are receiving. A form of affection. A form of love and caring. I could write a whole article about it. But I think you did a great job with your article. I couldn't of put it better myself.
