What is Balanced Living?

by Head Health Nutter on January 21, 2010

“It’s all about moderation and balance.” We hear that a lot, don’t we? But what does that mean? In this post we investigate the definition of the ever so elusive and attractive `balanced living’.

So far on Live Lighter, when we talk about balanced living, we’ve meant attending to our health in all areas of our life: body, mind and soul. But this definition falls short. Real short.

Or so I found out after reading The Law of Attraction: Making It Work For You by Canadian authors, Deborah Morrison and Arvind Singh. (Click here for the authors’ Facebook fan page.)

The Law of Attraction has been described and popularized in the hit movie, The Secret. However, many critics have suggested that the movie message is misdirecting and only skims the surface of how this Universal Law really works.

This is where Ms. Morrison and Mr. Singh come in. They clear up many of the misunderstandings resulting from The Secret and provide practical exercises to integrate the concepts of prosperity into every aspect of your life.

It’s their definition of `true prosperity’ that hit me like a brick: they’re describing the end result of balanced living!

The authors contend that true prosperity is composed of the manifestation of abundance in 5 key elements of your life:

  1. Physical
  2. Intellectual
  3. Emotional
  4. Social
  5. Spiritual

If you’ve ever wondered why you feel unhappy or that there’s something missing in your life, despite having much to be grateful for, then the following excerpt from The Law of Attraction: Making It Work For You may be as revealing for you as it was for me:

PHYSICAL: Physical prosperity and abundance includes good health, financial abundance, having a skill/career that is fulfilling and rewarding, comfortable, quiet and bright shelter along with a healthy lifestyle inclusive of proper exercise, proper breathing, rest & relaxation, proper diet, positive thinking and meditation.

INTELLECTUAL: Intellectual prosperity includes meta-cognition, the process of self-reflection, positive thinking and clarity of mind, also peace of mind, along with personal growth through intellectual learning.

EMOTIONAL: Emotional prosperity is inclusive of strongly developed character qualities such as peacefulness, joy, being responsible, along with compassion and fearlessness.

SOCIAL: Social prosperity and abundance is the creation and maintenance of ongoing well-balanced relationships that are enjoyable and mutually beneficial with family, friends, co-workers, community and internationally.

SPIRITUAL: Reflective of spiritual abundance and prosperity is an ongoing co-creative relationship with your Higher Self that results in the development of your inner virtues that strengthens your good character qualities and enables you to overcome fear with a strong and steady faith.

Spiritual abundance also enables you to focus on and live into the highest good for all concerned with a spirit of gratitude. Also, you are able to remain true to yourself; to be the unique individual you are and to express your inner gifts enabling you to take action that assists in creating a better world.

Now that we know what parameters we’re really working within, balanced living seems to be a bit more complicated. However, at least after analyzing our lives and comparing it to the above, we’ll have a better idea in what areas we need to improve!

Filled with interesting information about religions and their ancient roots, symbols and signs, along with discussions of ego versus our Divine Nature, The Law of Attraction: Making It Work For You is well-written, researched and referenced. When you take into account all the fun exercises to manifest abundance in your life, this is a book worth picking up!

What do you think, Readers? Is this balanced living? How about a challenge: creating a weekly plan that incorporates all of the above? :)
