If you’re taking care of yourself and living a healthy lifestyle, why not take care of the planet while you’re at it? I always cringe when I chuck a used pen into the garbage. That’s why when the Green Pen dropped into my lap, I couldn’t help but get excited!
It’s 100% biodegradable, except for the ink cartridge which takes care of more than half the waste. MVP Design has successfully replaced plastic with Mater-bi, a specially manufactured biodegradable, compostable cornstarch based material.
The company claims that, “Mater-bi does not release any metal or toxic residues, it comes from the earth and it returns to the earth without altering the eco-system.”
The crazy, fun part of this pen is that you can plant the Green Pen in a flower pot or in your garden and 8 months later, it’ll have decomposed and become fertilizer! They also sell pens with a bottom cap full of flower seeds. All you have to do is plant it and watch the seeds sprout and bloom while the pen decomposes into the soil. Cool, eh?
The Green Pen has been certified by BPI (Biodegradable Products Institute), approved by the CPIA (Canadian Plastic Industry Association), and has obtained the CEE safety mark for children. For all you pen-chewers, that means good news!
It writes like a regular, Bic ball-point pen. The plastic is soft and the design is square, rather than round, which is a little disconcerting at first, but actually allows for a more stable grasp.
But if you want one of these babies, you’ll have to find yourself a socially -conscious company because they are only sold as promotional pens.
If you’re a company, the Green Pen is a mighty strong statement of your values for potential customers – so get yourself hundreds of these golden marketing tools and start handing them out!
