Makeover Your Bedding for a Better Night’s Sleep

Getting a full night’s rest is essential for operating at your best. But if you spend half the night tossing and turning, sleeping soundly is a lofty goal. And the next day’s result? No focus, constant fatigue, and – it’s alright to admit – irritableness.

What can you do to ensure a peaceful slumber? If counting sheep hasn’t worked, it may be time to look at your bedding. What you’re sleeping on could – in fact – hinder or help your cause. Here are a few things you can do to upgrade or makeover your bedding to help you gain some essential ZZZs.

Check Your Mattress

This may seem like a no brainer, but it’s at the top of the list for a reason. Correct body support while sleeping is imperative to keeping back and joint pain at bay. Plus, adequate support can help lower stress levels. Though the initial cost can be intimidating, the investment in a good mattress far outweighs that of many other purchases that are seen as modern-day “essentials.”

Swap Out Your Pillow

Just as your mattress provides support for your body as you rest, your pillow provides support for your head and neck. If you’re waking up with neck pain every morning, it may be time to try out a new type of pillow. After time, they need to be replaced because they can harbor many of the germs and excess residue that comes from the face.

Use Lavender Sheet Spray

Lavender is a known relaxing scent, so spritzing a lavender linen spray like this one from the Honest Company can help your mind prepare for a proper snooze. According to the National Sleep Foundation, smells can play a large part in how well you sleep and can help improve your mood the next day.

Have Extra Blankets Handy

During off-seasons, nightly temperatures can vary considerably. Be prepared by keeping a basket by the bed with extra blankets. If you find yourself getting chilly at night, pile on another blanket to achieve a comfortable temperature. If you find yourself getting too hot, swap a heavier blanket for a lighter one.

Wash Your Bedding Often

Clean sheets are comforting and can help calm your mood. Get that hotel-like feeling from your sheets by washing them on a weekly basis and making the bed as soon as they come out of the dryer. This will help avoid wrinkles and maintain a fresh and relaxing look.

Choose Relaxing Comforters and Décor

It’s important to love your bedroom and the bedding within it. Find comforters, pillow shams and other décor that suit your style needs and make you feel at home. Opt for calming hues of blues and greens, or any color that helps you prepare for rest. By investing in your bedding, you’re investing in your sleep, so choose carefully.

Sleeping well can get you ready to face whatever comes your way the next day. If you’ve tried every avenue and still don’t have a clear answer for your tossing and turning, try reevaluating your bedroom and bedding. Follow the tips above to make your way to a peaceful and sleep-filled oasis.
