Happy 2012 Holidays from Live Lighter! (& Diet-Friendly Holiday Latte Showcase)

It’s Christmas Eve! I’m not sure about you but I’ve really felt the love over the past two and a half weeks. I hope you have, too. And here’s just a little more… Thank you all SO much for reading Live Lighter! As a small token of appreciation, the following guest post by Sam Omidi will help you enjoy the holidays with some tasty hot drinks AND stay health-conscious.

While the holiday season is the hardest time to maintain a healthy weight, it shouldn’t be the hardest time of year to get a good coffee. Don’t punish yourself this time around and treat yourself to some great seasonal drinks that will pack lots of flavor, but not a lot of calories.

No, I’m not a shill for Starbucks; I just chose their coffee for two reasons:

  1. Their nutritional information is readily available.
  2. They are so ubiquitous that just about everyone in the US and Canada has access to a Starbucks.

For all of you fellow Starbucks addicts out there, here is a list of drinks that is both diet friendly and delicious! Enjoy.

Gingerbread Latte

Tall, Skim, No Whip

Starting off the list with a strong entry here. The Gingerbread latte is a family favorite in my house and for good reason. Even when you get it skinny, you still get a delicious holiday drink and it’s a steal at under 200 calories.

Caramel Mocha

Tall, Skim, No Whip

Salting chocolate and caramel has been all the rage the last few years. Sometimes the crowd really does get it right, especially with the Salted Caramel Mocha. It does clock in at 220 calories and 40 grams of sugar when you get it with skim milk and no whip, but it isn’t going to break the calorie bank either. Just make this an occasional holiday treat and you will be fine.

Ok, if you are hardcore enough to find yourself on an extremely strict diet this holiday season, as many of us could be, then this drink is for you. Savor an Americano of any size with a shot of sugar free almond, hazelnut, or even peppermint syrup, and it will only cost you 30 calories or less, and zero carbs! Just a reminder that no matter how strict your caloric intake, there is always room for a delicious holiday coffee drink!
