Avoiding Acai Berry Scams

written by Guest Blogger August 9, 2011

I have yet to try acai berries, although I hear about them all the time. It’s because I haven’t had time to do any research on their benefits, and where and what to buy. Here’s an introductory post by guest blogger, James Harper, that will help start the process!

There are many sites that promote the Acai Berry’s benefits, and offer weight loss programmes, health food solutions and packages of Acai Berry in frozen and powdered form. The purpose of this article is not to discuss whether the Acai Berry benefits are genuine or not, as it’s already clear that the nutritional value of this super-food is huge. Rather, the purpose of this article is to explain how to avoid Acai Berry scams and get the highest quality product for your money.

Where do the Acai Berry benefits come from?

The Acai Berry is a small, round berry that has a large stone. Only a tiny percentage of the berry is edible, so a lot of work goes in to harvesting it, stripping out the stone, and salvaging the edible skin and pulp. The berry contains some fatty acids, and as such is highly perishable. To preserve the berry so that it can be transported abroad, it must be frozen immediately after picking.

The main Acai Berry benefits come from the fats and the anti-oxidants. If you want to get the full benefit of the berry, then it’s best to buy it in frozen form. You should defrost it immediately before you plan on consuming it. This will ensure that the berries are as fresh as possible, and that you get as much of the goodness as possible out of them, rather than just something that tastes o.k. but is nutritionally void of anything useful.

Some companies do offer powdered Acai Berry products. These are useful if you don’t have much freezer space and still want to have something nutritious in your diet, but powdered products aren’t quite as good as the real thing. For some people, though, they’re the only option. If you’re limited in your nutritional options, then second best is certainly better than nothing at all!

Avoiding the scammers

When you’re buying any health food product, it’s best to choose a known brand name. Also, look for a company that has been around a while, and that focuses on providing a quality product, rather than on marketing. Any company that promotes products purely as diet aids, or as an anti-aging wonder food, is probably not the best choice. If you focus on companies that are less flashy, then you’re less likely to encounter scammers.

For some people, the Acai Berry Benefits that appeal to them are the ones surrounding diet and weight loss. In that case, it may be that a company that offers support beyond just shipping the berries each month would be a better choice. For those people, a site that offers networking and a feeling of community with other people who are attempting to lose weight would be useful.

At the end of the day, however, the choice is yours. Just remember to do a little research on the company (for example, use Google or Bing to search their name), before handing over your financial details to any unknown company.
