Detox, or detoxification, is the type of diet or the act of cleansing the insides of your body either by eliminating the toxins through liquid cleansing or by fasting. There are also instances when a person changes his/her diet altogether to cleanse the body. There are many ways to do a detox and most of them are advised by doctors to maintain your health.
Here are 6 perfect eating habits to follow so you can fully detox:
Although coffee contains antioxidants that can also help with detox, green tea contains more. While our body needs the caffeine boost, you might want to control the caffeine intake if you want to detox. Green tea has important antioxidants in its most natural form that the body can work better when detoxifying. It contains a little amount of caffeine that should be able to give you an energy boost.
2. The more natural the fibre, the better
You’ve heard this many times – that if you want to detox and lose weight, you should eat more fiber. It is actually true. Fiber does not only help with weight loss, but it is also good for cleansing and can be a source of natural supplements. There are some products that claim to be rich in fiber. It would be better to eat fiber in its most natural form, such as vegetables.
3. Add super foods to your meal
Some super foods are foods rich in Omega 3, a fatty acid that is good for the heart and for your overall health. An example of these foods is avocado, almonds, walnuts, tuna, salmon and olive oil. There are also fruits and vegetables that are considered super foods and among them are raspberries, apples, oranges, carrots, tomatoes, spinach and sweet potatoes.
As the list of super foods would obviously tell you, these foods contain antioxidants and important nutrients that our body needs to fight diseases and remove toxins from the blood which can cause ailments.
4. Cut down on carbs, sugar, flour and fried food
Starch and carbohydrates add more to your waistline, sugar and flour add more toxins to the body, and fried food can be a source of cholesterol. Add these three together, and you’ll find a mix of – although the food may taste good but – food that can be extremely unhealthy.
If you want to detoxify, you will want to cut down on these types of menu. Instead, eat fruits and vegetables, or foods that are rich in omega 3.
5. If possible, go organic
Although they are more pricey than ordinary products, organic products are relatively healthier because they are naturally processed and/or do not contain preservatives and chemicals. Organic products are recommended by many health enthusiasts because of the many benefits to your health. Going organic will not only enhance your health, it will remove the toxins from your previous food choices.
6. Fast for a couple of days
Diets and expensive detox methods are unnecessary. If you want to start your detox program, you can try fasting for a couple of days. During these days, you can eat or drink food that are rich in antioxidants. Examples of these are fruits such as oranges and berries. You can also drink green tea during this time to add to the detoxifying effect.
This is like giving your body a rest from all the toxic food and drinks that you intake, and you also cleanse all the unhealthy elements from within to keep the body healthy and fresh.
Detox and eating healthy food does not only make you healthy, it also tackles your oral health care because you eat nutritiously to maintain your health.
