5 Yummy Smoothie Yogurt Recipes to Make Your Day

written by Guest Blogger June 3, 2012

In April we posted a guest article, 5 Health Benefits of Smoothies, from a lovely lady who’s coo-coo over smoothies, Olivia Parker. Here she is again and this time she shares 5 smoothie recipes made with yogurt (which makes smoothies not only healthier but creamier, like milkshakes)!

One popular key ingredient for yummy healthy smoothies? That would be yogurt. Yogurt is milk or cream that is cultured with active live cultures, which are the good bacteria that help our body’s immune system stay strong and healthy. It also helps to promote good digestion and prevent infections such as urinary tract infections or yeast infections.

Antibiotics that are prescribed to us to treat infections destroy all bacteria in the body, including the good ones. Eating yogurt during these times may help in restoring the balance of good bacteria in the body. Also, people who are lactose intolerant can eat yogurt safely, as the live cultures reduce the yogurt’s level of lactose.

Yogurt is also a good source of calcium and protein (gives the body energy and helps curb your appetite a bit; also an essential building block for the muscles and other body systems). You can enjoy eating it as it is, straight from the cup. Or you can add nuts or fruit to it.

All of these make yogurt a prime ingredient in making healthy smoothie recipes. To get you started, here are 5 great recipes with our main ingredient:
