2. The Skinny Bitch Diet
Skinny Bitch is a vegan-based diet book and best-seller. Published in 2005, it does a little more than advocate for a meat-free living. On this diet, learning how to live a healthy lifestyle also means understanding the problem with factory farming and animal cruelty. However, when it comes to a diet for weight loss, you don’t necessarily have to believe or care about animal rights to benefit from the Skinny Bitch theory to healthy living.
The book was written by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin, who should know a thing or two about weight loss since they worked in the modeling industry for years. However, they modify the no animal product philosophy a bit by crossing sugar (both real and artificial), refined carbs, caffeine, and alcohol off your grocery list as well.
3. Raw Vegan
Raw vegans eat a combination of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and even sprouted grains. So what makes it “raw,” exactly? People who adhere to this diet believe food isn’t meant to be cooked. For many, this might seem like a novel and somewhat strange idea, but it has a solid scientific basis. According to New York Times’ blogger Tara Parker-Pope, studies show boiling and baking vegetables removes important nutrients: cooking vegetables can decrease vitamin C by as much as 55 percent for example.
Although the emphasis is on uncooked foods, there’s some leeway in the diet – you’re allowed to cook your food as long as it doesn’t go above 118 degrees. You might be thinking you’ll get bored with this diet just as quickly as you’ll lose weight – how many carrots can a person munch on before they get tired?
However, raw vegans make this diet work by getting creative with their food processors, and by using dehydrators and blenders. Raw vegans have a wealth of smoothie recipes and home-made dips. If you have a craving for chips, you can even dehydrate kale to make a healthy adaption. Given the low-calorie intake, this is certainly a good diet for weight loss.
4. Raw ‘Till Four
If you want to learn how to live a healthy lifestyle and lose weight quickly without the extreme restrictions of some of the above diets, this might be the best choice. Raw ‘till four follows the concept of the raw vegan diet plan… until four o’clock.
According to Huffington Post, the creator of this adaption, Freelee the Banana Girl, has lost over 40 pounds following her method. In her interview with Huffington Post, she affirms this diet isn’t about restrictions, rather, raw ‘till four wants to simplify weight loss by allowing practitioners to eat as many calories from raw fruits and vegetables as they want throughout the day, and follow up with a cooked vegan meal for dinner. This makes raw ‘till four a healthy and more flexible diet for weight loss.
5. Juice Diet
If you really want to shed weight and detoxify, juicing will certainly accomplish that. Instead of eating raw fruits and vegetables, you consume them in the form of juice in this vegan diet.
If you’ve seen the documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead, you’ll see just how incredible the results of a juice diet can be. In the film, Joe Cross and Robert Mac both consume only juice to lose tens of pounds and stop taking medications. You can juice anything you want and make interesting combinations, like carrot and ginger juice to keep things fresh and interesting, but everything you consume is in liquid form.
If you’re serious about losing weight and want to see fast results, a vegan diet for weight loss will definitely melt away the pounds. While some might find switching to veganism an easy and logical choice, especially if you have moral motivations as well, others will need to harness their willpower to follow the strict guidelines. However, if you can stick to one of these plans, you’ll get your weight down in no time.
