5 Tips to Lose 5 Pounds

by Head Health Nutter on April 17, 2013

I’ve recently hit a roadblock to my weight loss, and like so many of my guest bloggers, Drew Stegman of How2GainMuscleFast.com has perfect timing! If you need to lose those last 5 pounds or push through a weight loss slump because your body’s gotten used to your efforts, try these 5 tips!

jumping-ropeIf you’re like many people, you’ve probably set a New Years resolution that has to do with getting in shape and losing weight. But don’t focus so much on the end result. Instead, you should be setting attainable short term goals along the way to guide your progress.

Probably the biggest problem for people trying to lose weight is their motivation. And this is often why focusing on the end result is not a good idea. It’s perfectly fine to have big dreams and aspirations, but you should always strive to set short term attainable goals along the way, which will keep you motivated to go after the big goal.

To avoid months of frustration and coasting without results, here are 5 tips to lose 5 pounds fast:

1. Drink Only Water

You probably already know that drinking water is good for your health, but quite honestly you’re probably not drinking enough water. If you regularly drink diet soda or fruit juice, you need to put these things down and focus ONLY on drinking water. Fruit juice is loaded with sugar and diet soda is full of artificial flavors and preservatives, which can negatively affect your metabolism and make it harder to lose weight.

2. …or Green Tea

I would say that there’s one exception to the water rule – green tea. Green tea will naturally suppress your appetite and will increase your metabolism, which will make it easier for your body to burn calories, translating into more fat loss.

3. Cut Down on Carbs

You shouldn’t be completely eliminating carbs from your diet, but if you want to lose fat fast then limiting your carb consumption can definitely help you do so. I’ve witnessed hundreds of my clients lose tons of body fat simply because they’ve decreased their carb consumption and I can testify to this as well. If you want to drop the most body fat, I would limit your carb consumption to about the equivalent of 6 slices of bread per day (less than 100 grams).

When you do eat carbs, make sure they come from nothing but whole grains, fruits and vegetables – avoid simple sugars at all times (found in things like cookies, candy, cakes, doughnuts and ice cream). Simple sugars spike your insulin levels and then drop your blood sugar levels extremely low, which will leave you hungry again a short time after you eat them – even if you just ate a little while ago. The result is typically increased fat storage, since you just ate but now you’re listening to your body since it is demanding food again! It’s a never ending cycle.

4. Jump Rope Every Morning

We all know that jumping rope is good for your heart, but it can also be good for burning fat. Jumping rope increases your heart rate and metabolism about as much as high intensity interval training, so it stands to reason why jumping rope could help you lose those 5 pounds. It’s an effective choice of exercise – it burns tons of calories in a short period of time!

You should be jump roping for about 15 minutes each day. I understand how hard it can be to jump rope this much at once (because it’s very tiring), which is why I recommend spreading your jump rope time out to about 30 minutes. This means that you will rest one minute while jump roping the next, and so on. Repeat this cycle until you’ve jump roped the full 15 minutes. If you’re not tired after all of this, feel free to do more!

5. Do High Intensity

If jump roping isn’t your thing, then high intensity interval training (HIIT) can definitely help you lose 5 pounds fast. HIIT basically involves short bursts of intense exercise, followed by a rest/walking period. For example, if you were running on the treadmill you would sprint at about 90% intensity for a minute and then rest for 30-45 seconds, and then repeat. This can also be done with weights, which is recommended if you are trying to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time.

Hopefully these 5 tips have given you some better insight about what needs to be done if you want to drop body fat in an efficient, healthy and practical manner. Losing weight isn’t rocket science, but it does require some work when it comes to nutrition and your workout program. By using the 5 tips I’ve given you above, you’ll be well on your way to weight loss success.
