5 Simple Things To Do To Stay Healthy

Seriously, without your health, what do you have? You can have all the money you can ask for, but without your health, you can’t enjoy it. Same with healthy, loving relationships – they require a give-and-take process which is impossible to fulfill if you’re unwell. Really and truly, anything worthwhile in life requires your health! So here are a few simple ways to stay healthy everyday, provided by guest blogger,  Maria Trenda, a registered dietitian.   

Maintaining your body in a healthy state is one of the aspects of life that *should* be a priority for all people. This does not have to be one of those things that require you to have a lot of time and money available. You can actually develop some healthy habits that can be easily incorporated into your daily activities without any unnecessary hustle. Some of the simple things that you can do every day, having a lasting effect on your health are:

1) Eat well

Having regular meals is essential as this will give your body the energy and the nutrients that it needs to remain healthy and to function properly. The amount and type of foods that you eat is very important. You need to eat enough food to give you the energy to carry on with the activities of the day and the normal functions that your body must perform like breathing and pumping of the blood, among many others.

The foods that you eat should contain all the food types like carbohydrate, protein and vitamins in the appropriate quantities with minimal sugar and fat to ensure that none of this is converted into body fat. You also need to make sure that you eat regularly and if you want to snack, make sure that the snacks are healthy. Breakfast is an important meal and therefore you need to make sure that you do not skip it. The last meal of the day should be taken at least two hours before you go to sleep to ensure that digestion has already began as you retire to bed.

2) Wash your hands

Hands are used for many functions throughout the day. Some of these functions may not be very hygienic and you therefore need to make sure that you clean up before you use the same hands to eat or to prepare food. Many people teach their children to clean their hands but they do not follow the advice that they give and this may cause them to become ill. You may think that your hands are clean but this is not always true especially if you clean your hands with water only. Cleaning the hands is a process that you should take seriously and make sure that you clean between your fingers and that you do it thoroughly.

3) Clean up your environment

You can save yourself a lot of time and effort that you would otherwise spend taking care of illness if you make sure that you clean your house and all other places that you are in contact with. As you clean, make sure that you use a disinfectant that will kill all the germs and prevent them from being transmitted to other areas of the house. One of the places that have the most germs is the bathroom and toilet areas and if you are not careful, these germs can be transferred to other areas in the home, and soon enough you will hear people complaining about conditions like diarrhea among many others.

4) Deal with the issue and not the symptom

Sometimes you find that you have a frequent headache or you are constantly experiencing stomach discomfort. In most of these cases, you will find a way to get rid of the pain or the discomfort without giving any thought to the thing that may be causing the symptoms. This is one of the reasons why over the counter medication remains to be so popular and many people continue to self medicate, taking ridiculous amounts of painkillers to get rid of all the symptoms. If you have a headache because you are tired or hungry, you can sleep or eat and this will save you from having to take painkillers that can mask a very serious problem that may need fast medical attention.

5) Rest

Our bodies need to rest so that we can have the strength to carry on with all the activities that are necessary every day. Without this rest, you may burn out and the fatigue will lead to some health effects. One of the ways that you can do this is by getting a minimum of eight hours of sleep every single day. You may even find that this rest will allow you to carry on with other activities faster because of the increased energy and you can therefore save on time. This will allow you to have a regular sleep pattern.
