Part of a healthy lifestyle is taking care of our life-giving planet. Did you know there are entire islands made of plastic waste? In today’s post we feature a video released over a year ago and recently became viral introducing a machine that turns plastic into oil!
Global warming is a major concern for many people, including Akinori Ito, engineer and researcher for the Japanese company, Blest Corporation. In an effort to reduce CO2 emissions, clean the world of plastic waste and provide us with a quasi-renewable energy source, Ito invented an oil conversion machine.
Since plastic is made from oil, Ito’s machine essentially reconverts it back to its original state. Through electricity (1 kilowatt) and heat, his machine converts 1 kilogram of plastic into 1 litre of oil without emitting carbon dioxide or toxic substances. The oil obtained can be further processed into gasoline, diesel and kerosene.
It’s worth noting that Ito’s machine can process almost anything, including polyethylene, polystyrene and polypropylene. However, it is unable to process PET bottles. Read more about this fascinating Japanese technology on OurWorld 2.0.
Is this the type of solution we’re looking for to start healing our planet? Or do you think technology will be the death of us?
